Some very loud American women kept us awake from midnight onwards. They were shouting their mouths off as though it was halfway through the day. They also woke us up at eight in the morning. Also I heard a warden reprimanding one of the women, not only for all the noise, but also for running around the place naked.

On the girls' advice, we caught the bus from near the Youth Hostel to Karen. From the somewhere in Karen where we got off the bus, we walked rather a long distance to the Karen Blixen Museum.

On the way, we stopped off at a restaurant to try and buy some breakfast. No proper food was being served, so we settled for two pots of tea, which, rather strangely, came to 55 shillings.

Anyway, we pressed on to the museum, but were somewhat disappointed to find that the entrance fee was 100ksh for non-residents. After taking a photograph, we headed back to Nairobi nearly dying of starvation.

Karen Blixen Museum.

We managed to find a nice little restaurant somewhere in the south-west of the city. It was very clean and smart, and our delicious pepper-steak and chips came to only 85ksh.

On the way back to the youth hostel, we noticed both the American Express office and the British High Commission. We got the address of American Express in Kuala Lumpur and planned to find out on Monday about our likelihood of entering Malaysia with Israeli border stamps.

Near the British High Commission, we noticed another poster advertising the last showing of Habeas Corpus, by Alan Bennett, at the Kenya National Theatre.

After a 35ksh pint at the very posh Norfolk Hotel, we bought our tickets at the theatre and went back to the hostel to have a luxury shower using a bucket of cold water.

The acting in the play was terrible. Thankfully, all the actors were British, but it was like watching a pantomime. The only entertainment was provided by a female member of the cast who, although not being able to act or sing, was thoroughly gorgeous.

After the performance, we were lucky enough to stumble on a restaurant called the Curry Pot. A really tasty vegetable curry with rice came to 40ksh.
