Arrived Cairo at about half past eight in the evening. Intercepted at airport by ‘official’ tourism representatives who showed us how to pay about ten times as much for everything than we would normally. Turned down the E£800 trip to Luxor but happily coughed up E£60 to be driven to the middle of Cairo. Checked into the worst hotel this side of the Mediterranean.
