Had a lie-in this morning until 5.30! The reason is that we were to start work half an hour late at 6.30 because we were to start the day picking peppers; and apparently it has to be done when it is properly light.

There seem to be two types of job to do on the farm: the high priority picking and sorting and low-priority jobs such as making cardboard boxes, where the general idea is to work as slowly as possible in order to run comfortably into overtime. Today our second-category job was fixing doors onto the melon greenhouses. Well, actually all I did was fill some polythene sacks with sand for keeping the polythene doors down to seal the greenhouse. The rest of the time was spent mooching around watching as Olly, Godwin, Sumbad and Banjo did the doors, which was a two-man job.

After a "ten-hour" day, we returned back to the farmyard, had some dinner (a chicken donated by the farmer's wife, boiled and fried with vegetables).
