Picked peppers in the morning and sorted them in the afternoon. During the sorting I realised why the farmer usually supervises this job. Today he was absent and the team couldn't cope with this complicated task.

Sumbad was not only classifying his peppers as large only if they were larger than 80mm, but he was going through my large box removing those measuring between 70mm and 80mm. I pointed out that the limit was 80 only for export and the internal market was actually 70. Without a flicker of embarrassment he just said "OK" and put the peppers back.

Unhindered by Gideon's petty interfering, Godwin was happily piling all his 1st class green peppers into his 2nd class box.

The farmer's wife brightened up the evening by bringing round a plateful of delicious chocolate cake and a bag of chocolate liqueurs. Hopefully the farmer will do his bit by giving us a massive New Year's bonus.

It being New Year's Eve we had to visit the pub. After our excessive drinking on Christmas Eve, we insured against an empty wallet and sore head by taking only 15 shekels to the pub with us, which was enough for 4 pints. We had a pretty good time. We arrived at about 11.30 and found everybody totally ratarsed. Brian from Zimbabwe was there, entering into the spirit of things by dragging a friend around the dance floor by his neck and throwing him rather brutally onto the floor.

After nearly 4 hours of talking and dancing we went home, managing to walk in a straight line.
