Today was interesting because the farmer has found new ways of making our lives miserable. Picking tomatoes for six hours obviously is not enough any more.

After a spot of melon pruning, we were taken to a field to cut circles in the plastic sheeting over the furrows, remove these plastic circles, and then, worst of all, push wire into the sand to make little arches along the length of the field. By lunch-time my back was absolutely killing me!

In the afternoon we discovered that Gideon is the chief agricultural advisor to Venezuela, his country of birth. Either we have misjudged his intellect or Venezuela is in big trouble.
