Got up at eight feeling tired and suffering from a slight hangover.

After eating breakfast and sorting out a few things in town, we got a bus to the cableway and started climbing. Unfortunately we had a few problems with buying refreshments, so we were an hour later than we had planned. It was gone eleven by the time we started climbing in earnest.

The climb was really tough, and the weather very hot. I found the climb particularly taxing due to the fact that my hangover had left my legs entirely free of energy.

We reached the top at 1pm. It was a bit cloudy at first, but all that soon cleared up and the views were fantastic. There were some really weird little animals at the top. They looked like giant hamsters; some were well over a foot long. It turned out that they are called rock rabbits.

Lion's Head from the top of Table Mountain.

The journey down the mountain was a bit of a nightmare. We took the wrong route twice and ended up missing Kirstenbosch by miles and even then we were two-and-a-half hours later for our meeting with the South African girls. What a bummer.

At the bottom of the mountain we easily found a bus stop. A black taxi soon appeared and we boarded it, after making sure that it was actually going to Cape Town. Unfortunately the bastard had lied to us and we ended up in Hout Bay, a couple of miles south-west of where we had caught the taxi.

We were dropped off at a bus stop from which no buses departed. And the weather was deteriorating. After about half an hour we gave up on the bus and walked to a nearby food place where they had a 'phone. Olly rang Kathy and she eventually agreed to come and collect us in the car. We sat down on some benches outside and it started to rain. It was 5.30.

By 6.10 we were sure that they weren't going to turn up; and, to make matters worse, the fast-food place with a 'phone was closing up. At 6.15 we were overcome with joy at the sight of a red Toyota Conquest pulling into the car park. It was them. Within half an hour we were sitting in the Pizza Hut drinking beer and waiting for our large pizza to come.

We spent the rest of the evening doing absolutely nothing. It felt great.
