Got up quite late and went round to the shop and had a coke and borrowed some more money from Joe to get some clothes and a towel to replace the one I left at the hotel in Mikumi.

The shopping was quite an ordeal: I never thought I would ever have to haggle over the price of towels and T-shirts. In the end I bought a towel for 1,900 Tsh, two T-shirts for 1,250 each, and one T-shirt for 1,000. We had to barter for all these prices.

At lunch-time Joe drove us to the Gymkhana Club for a meal and a couple of beers. It was very pleasant there. From our table all we could see was a few tennis courts, plenty of trees, and a very plush house in the distance. (Whoops! Actually the meal came before the shopping.)

In the evening we had another great meal at Joe's place and then helped Anil and Joe count the bucketfuls of money the shop had made that day. After that we drove to the beach, ogling prostitutes nearly all the way.
